Rules of Online Baccarat

Online baccarat has simple rules. The main goal of the game is to predict which one among the banker or players will have the highest score. It could also include predicting if it is going to be a tie. To start the game, the player needs to place a bet on whether it will be a tie, or the banker or player to have the highest score. When this is done, the dealer will deal with the cards.

The dealer will also give the player and the banker two cards each. Next, the scores will be added up to see the final number. Face cards score zero, while tens also score the same. Aces have a value of 1, and the rest follow the value on their card.

It is important to note that no hand can have a value above 9. The dealer only counts the last digit in the score. This means that if a player has a 14 card, the value would be 4. There are some separate rules for the player and the banker. They will be discussed below.

Player Rules

If a player has 8 or 9, they will not receive any more cards and the hand ends. If they have a value below 5, they will take a third card. If it is 6, they will stand but the dealer will take a card. If the player hits, the dealer will decide whether to pick a third card based on the score and the player's third card.

Banker Rules

In the banker rules, the banker hits when they have a hand of 2. If the bank has 3, they will hit unless the player's third card is 8. If the banker has 4, they will hit only when the player has a hand between 2 and 7. If it is 5, the hit only occurs if the player's third card is between 4 and 7. If it is 6, the bank hits if the third card is 6 or 7. The bank stands if they have a hand of 7.

Rules For Drawing a Third Card

In baccarat, the player's hand must follow certain rules when drawing the third card. If they have 8 or 9, they automatically win and will not draw any more cards. If their hand totals 6 or 7, they will stand. If it is 0 to 5, they will draw a third card.

The banker also has rules to follow based on their hand and the player's third card. If the banker has 0 to 2, they must draw a third card. If it is 3, they must draw when the player has 0 to 7 or 9 as their third card. If it is 8, they stand, but if it is 4, they draw only when the player has 2 to 7. If it is 5, they draw only when the player has 4 to 7. If it is 6, they draw if the player's card is 6 or 7. If it is 7, they stand.

Baccarat Bets

There are a few bets you place in baccarat. Usually, there are no side bets, but you can bet in three ways. You can bet on three things: the player's hand, the banker's hand, and the tie. The banker's and player's hand bets are 1:1 and a tie bet is 8:1. You can bet that the banker or player will win, or that both players will draw three cards and tie.

Card Values in Baccarat

Understanding card values are important in baccarat. When you get a 10 or other face cards, their value is zero, like in other casino games. Cards from 2-9 carry their face value, i.e. card 2 is worth 2 points. Aces, on the other hand, are worth one point.

Commission, House Edge, and Odds

All casinos charge a commission on bets to make a profit. In most cases, the banker’s bet carries a 5% commission. This means that each $10 bet will carry a $0.50 commission. Also, this percentage is considered higher because the game favors the banker's hand.

On the other hand, the banker's hand has a house edge of 1.06% while the player's hand has 1.24%. The odds in a baccarat game are as follows:

Bet and Odds
Bet Odds
Banker 45.8%
Player 44.6%
Tie 9.6%

Variations of Baccarat Games

There are several variants of baccarat in online fast paying casinos. The top variations include punto banco, Chemin de fer, baccarat en banque, mini baccarat, super pan 9, European baccarat, no commission baccarat, and three card baccarat. Below are the rules of the game.

Punto Banco
Punto Banco

This version is the most common one. It involves betting on which player will have 9 or a closer number. Also, it could include a tie after dealing with the cards; it is easy to learn and doesn’t require any further moves.

Chemin de Fer
Chemin de Fer

More than one player takes part here, and each one plays the banker. Also, the banker sets the limits for all rounds. After dealing with the cards, both players can choose to draw a third card. Next, the hands will be compared to select the winner.

Baccarat en Banque
Baccarat en Banque

It involves three decks without switching the banker like the previous variant. However, it includes a shuffling ritual before players get their cards. The banker gets one hand, while the player receives two hands. It also has the same third card tiles as the previous variant.

Mini Baccarat
Mini Baccarat

This type of baccarat is punto banco in a faster format. It is common in live casinos and online casinos. However, it has lower betting limits and is great for low rollers. Also, players don’t pick cards in this variant which words up the game.

Super Pan 9
Super Pan 9

It uses around 8 or 13 decks. These decks do not contain the 7, 8, 9, or 10s. One player becomes the banker, and all players place bets and receive three cards. When the banker reveals their hand, the players stand if they have 7, 8, or 9.

No Commission Baccarat (Super 6)
No Commission Baccarat (Super 6)

Both the banker and the player bets pay 1:1. However, if the banker has a 6, the payout would be 0.5:1. Also, the game includes a super 6 side bet that includes a 12:1 payout when the banker has a 6.

Three Card Baccarat
Three Card Baccarat

This game features one deck of cards, and after betting, the players get three cards each. Three-face cards are the best hands, and it has different side bets. One is the Three Faces bet that pays 16:1 only when the dealer’s hand has 3 faces.

European Baccarat
European Baccarat

This is similar to punto banco too. It allows players to decide to draw or stand on 5. Also, the banker can decide to request a third card. It also restricts how much a player can bet against the banker. For this, the player's total bets cannot surpass the banker's bet.

Real Money VS Free Baccarat

There are a lot of differences between real money and free baccarat. The lists below will highlight them:

Perks of Free Baccarat

  • Lots of demo games to try before investing real money
  • You can practice new game strategies when you play for free
  • It gives you a chance to simply have a good time without worrying about losing money

Perks of Real Money Baccarat

  • The chance to win real money
  • Real money games are more exciting
  • The games are barely available for free
  • To join a casino loyalty program, you need to play with real money

Online Baccarat Formats

There are lots of baccarat formats you can choose from. Some of them include:

Standard Online Baccarat

This version is digitized and is like a video game. There is no real dealer; rather it is automated. It is more common online and follows the standard baccarat format. In a standard game of baccarat, there are typically two players and a dealer. The players are dealt two cards each and the goal of the game is to get as close to a total of 9 as possible.

Live Dealer Baccarat

This is a newer and more exciting version. It is still an online game but includes a live dealer. Players do not play with the computer like the classic online game. Instead, it involves a live stream from a new casino. The real-life dealer communicates with players on the stream to make it more interesting.

Mobile Baccarat

Mobile baccarat is the same as both but is available on iOS and Android devices. This could mean playing on your smartphone or tablet. The fact that they are mobile doesn’t mean you need an app to run them. Most casinos are mobile-friendly, so you can play games from the device's browser and get the same experiences.

High Stakes and Low Stakes

Table games in casinos have both upper and lower limits. In high-stakes games, players can enjoy high upper bet limits with high minimum bets. Low-stakes games are quite the opposite. The entry fees are lower, but maximum winnings are also low. This is why most high-class baccarat casinos with baccarat focus on both types of players.

However, there are high-limit baccarat games that focus on high rollers alone. Most casinos have deposit and withdrawal limits for general players. However, the VIPs enjoy a little more flexibility. Some table games also have table limits as well. So this may impact the deposit limits.

Tips & Tricks For Online Baccarat

There are a few strategies for online baccarat to make your game run smoothly. Each one will be discussed below.

  • Betting on a tie. It is not ideal to bet on a tie. The reason is that baccarat has a low house edge and tie bets have a 14.4% house advantage. It is not worth the trouble at all.
  • Bet on the banker. Another useful tip is to bet on the banker because this player has a house edge of 1.06%. This means that you can get 95% of your wager. The player bet has a higher house edge of 1.24%, which is not as good as the bankers.
  • Avoid mini-baccarat, also known as Super 6. It is common in online casinos but has lots of disadvantages. For one, the normal payout for the banker's bet is 95%. However, if the banker has a value of 6, the payout will be 50% instead. Such a change increases the house edge, and you can play 150 hands in an hour without losing so much.

Baccarat Strategies

There are some interesting strategies in baccarat to increase your chances of winning. They include the negative progressive system, the positive progressive system, and flat betting.

Negative Progressive System

This system is about increasing your wager to cover for losses. You can adjust the bet amount from 3 to 2 to 1 to minimize losses. For example, if you start by betting €10 and lose, your next bet would be €20. If you win, your next bet would be €10. If you lose again, the bet will be €5. The idea behind this system is that you will eventually recoup your losses and turn a profit. It does not guarantee a profit all the time, but you can make some profit with it.

Positive Progressive System

This strategy is more positive and involves increasing your bet amount anytime you win. It could follow a sequence of 1-2-4. In most cases, the player returns to the first sequence after the third win. For example, if you start by betting €10 and win, your next bet would be €20. The next bet could also be double the last amount. The idea behind this system is that you will eventually turn a profit by capitalizing on your winning streak. However, this system can be risky because it requires you to increase your bets after each win.

Flat Betting

This strategy involves picking the banker or player to bet on consistently. You can try this method until the third loss. The idea behind this system is to minimize your losses and avoid the risks associated with increasing your bet after each loss or win.

However, flat betting can also be risky because it does not take into account the likelihood of certain outcomes. For example, if you are playing baccarat and the player's hand has a higher probability of winning, it may be more profitable to bet on the player's hand than to use a flat betting strategy.

The goal in baccarat is to have a hand with a value as close to 9 as possible. A hand can never have a value of more than 9. If the total of your hand is more than 9, the value will drop its first digit. For example, 12 becomes a 2.
When betting on a draw in baccarat, the maximum payout is 8 to 1 (or 9 to 1).
Yes, you should. However, you need to consider the 5% commission on the banker’s winnings.
